An artist who I have been interested in and inspired by recently is the photographer Larry Sultan. In his project,
The Valley, Larry photographed porn sets around Los Angeles in the early 2000s. His photos are strongly composed while still feeling like a snapshot, and remind me of many of the photographers we looked at in the lecture. The photos reveal the artifice surrounding these shoots while highlighting the actors' vulnerability within them. I find them very beautiful, emotional, and playful.
