Jake - Garry Winogrand - Artist Sharing

Hi everyone! Hope you are all safe and well-- miss seeing you all in the lab.

An artist whose work I am-- yet again-- seasonally obsessed with is Garry Winogrand (1928 - 1984). He was part of the "New Documents"-era group of documentary photographers, and famously rejected the title of street photographer. Rather, he considered himself "A student of America", not the street. Winogrand shot obsessively and ceaselessly, leaving behind over 2500 undeveloped rolls of film after his unexpected death in 1984. His photos, posthumous or not, describe America as Winogrand saw it-- fractured, frenzied, and confused.

  1. The amount of time that it took my eyes to notice the man in the wheelchair made the first photo so interesting!
