Ai WeiWei-Brandon
kind of low hanging fruit, but Ai WeiWei is by far one of my favorite artists. Ai's sculpture and documentary work is probably more widely known, but I love his photography as well. His series of photos from when he lived in the Lower East Side 1983-93 are reminiscent of Tseng Kwong Chi's work thematically, dealing with being an Asian man living in New York during that period of time. I also just personally identify with his work concerned with China's social issues and how fraught the Chinese national and individual identity can be, especially right now.
